Our story
I built VistaVoyage myself. My name is Kyle, I live and work in Johannesburg, and this site is not a global aggregator with a South African landing page bolted on — it is a South African site, built here, for people who fly from here.
It started with a normal frustration. Booking a domestic flight meant six tabs, three different prices for the same seat, and no straight answer on what a bag would actually cost me. The airlines publish the facts, but scattered across PDFs and fare-rule pages nobody reads. The big comparison sites scrape those facts and get them wrong often enough to matter — I have seen sites quote a 23kg SAA economy allowance that has not been correct for years.
So I started checking things myself, one route at a time, against each airline's own published information. That is still how this site is built. When a page here tells you Lift's entry fare includes no checked bag, or that Lanseria only serves five scheduled routes, or that FlySafair started flying Cape Town to Hoedspruit in October 2025 — that was read off the airline's own site and dated, not inherited from another comparison site.
I do this around a full-time retail management job. That is worth saying plainly, because it explains both the strength and the limit of this site: every fact here has been checked by a person who cares whether it is right, and there are fewer pages than a venture-funded aggregator would have. I would rather have 600 pages that are true than 60,000 that are guessed.
South African first — and where international fits
Domestic South African routes are the core of this site. That is what I know, that is what I check hardest, and that is where the local detail actually helps — salary-cycle timing, school-holiday price walls, whether Lanseria or OR Tambo is genuinely cheaper once you add the Gautrain, which airport is right for which part of the Kruger.
We do also cover international routes — Cape Town to London, Johannesburg to Dubai, Durban to Mauritius and around 45 others. But it is worth being precise about what that means, because it affects you:
- These are international flights departing South Africa. That is the traveller this site is built for.
- Every fare shown is in South African rand. The search runs through Travelstart South Africa, so prices display and process in ZAR — there is no currency switch that changes what your card is charged.
- If you are booking from outside South Africa you can still use the site, but your bank converts from rand at its own rate and may add an international transaction fee. Read the rand total before you confirm; that is the number that hits your card.
I would rather tell you that upfront than have you discover it at the payment screen. A comparison site that is vague about currency is a comparison site that is hoping you do not check.
How the facts on this site get checked
- Baggage allowances, fare tiers and route networks are read from the operating airline's own website — flysafair.co.za, lift.co.za, flyairlink.com, flysaa.com, cemair.co.za — not from other comparison sites.
- Airport information comes from the airport operator: airports.co.za, lanseria.co.za, kmiairport.co.za and the relevant official site.
- Each airline and airport page carries a verification note naming the source and the date it was last checked.
- When something changes, the page changes. Routes get suspended and allowances get cut; a page that is not maintained becomes misinformation quite quickly.
- When I get something wrong, I fix it and I do not quietly bury it. If you spot an error, tell me — that is genuinely the fastest way this site improves.
What you will not find here: invented review scores, fabricated traveller counts, or "verified by" badges with nothing behind them. If a number is on this site, it came from somewhere I can point at.
How VistaVoyage works
We are a flight comparison and information platform, not a booking site. Here is exactly how the process works:
- You browse routes and compare options on VistaVoyage — our route pages show which airlines fly each pairing, typical pricing windows, baggage policies, and booking tips.
- When you're ready to book, we redirect you to one of our trusted booking partners — Travelstart, Skyscanner, or the airline directly.
- Your booking and payment are handled entirely by the partner platform. You receive confirmation directly from them, and your consumer rights are fully protected by the airline or Travelstart's booking guarantee.
- We earn a small referral fee from our partners when you complete a booking. This does not affect the price you pay — you will never pay more by coming through VistaVoyage.
There are no membership fees, no account requirements, and no additional charges from our side. VistaVoyage is completely free to use.

We only partner with established, reputable platforms that South African travellers already trust:
- Travelstart — Africa's largest online travel agency, operating since 1999. Travelstart is accredited by IATA and processes millions of bookings annually across South Africa and the rest of Africa.
- Skyscanner — One of the world's leading flight comparison platforms, used by over 100 million travellers monthly. Skyscanner is owned by Trip.com Group and is globally recognised for price accuracy.
- Direct airline links — For many routes we also link directly to FlySafair, Lift, Airlink, CemAir, and South African Airways, so you can book without any intermediary at all.
When you click through from VistaVoyage, you are landing on the same booking platforms you would find independently. We simply make it easier to get there for the right route at the right price.
Which airlines do we cover?
VistaVoyage covers all active domestic airlines operating in South Africa:
- FlySafair — South Africa's most punctual low-cost carrier, operating since 2014
- Lift — Premium low-cost airline launched in 2020, known for included refreshments and reliability
- Airlink — Regional specialist connecting smaller airports that other airlines don't serve
- CemAir — Serving niche regional routes including Lanseria departures
- South African Airways — The national carrier, offering full-service flights on major routes
We track all major domestic routes across South Africa — from the busiest corridors like Johannesburg to Cape Town down to regional pairings like Hoedspruit, Skukuza, Phalaborwa, and Plettenberg Bay.
Our editorial approach
Every guide, route page, and blog post on VistaVoyage is written with one goal: genuinely useful information for South African travellers. We don't accept payment for editorial placement. We don't inflate prices or manipulate route data. We don't recommend booking platforms that we wouldn't use ourselves.
Our content is reviewed and updated regularly to reflect current airline schedules, route changes, and pricing patterns. When airlines make changes — new routes, suspended services, updated baggage policies — we update our pages to reflect that.
Privacy and data
VistaVoyage does not sell your personal data. We collect basic analytics (page views, session data) via Google Analytics to understand how our content is used and improve it. We use standard browser cookies for site functionality. You can read our full privacy policy here.
