FlySafair is not just the most popular low-cost carrier in South Africa — it is arguably the most successful domestic airline the country has produced. Founded in 2014 as a subsidiary of Safair (a cargo and charter operator with decades of experience), FlySafair launched into a market still dominated by SAA and the now-defunct Kulula and Mango. FlySafair fare classes explained

Checked baggage (20 kg or 23 kg) is a paid add-on on all fare classes. Pre-purchase at booking — airport baggage fees are substantially higher. If you book a Saver fare, there is no option to change or refund: treat it as a confirmed commitment.

How to get the cheapest FlySafair fares

• Book 4–8 weeks ahead for off-peak travel. Inside 2 weeks, fares on popular routes often double.
• Fly Tuesday–Wednesday. Mid-week departures on JNB→CPT, JNB→DUR and CPT→JNB consistently offer the lowest base fares.
• Avoid school holiday windows — June/July, September and December all see significant fare spikes. The week before and after these periods can also price 30–50% higher.
